With the objective of promoting the exchange of information and experiences among beekeepers of Cayo Quality Honey Producers Cooperative Society Limited (CQHPC) of Belize and the Beekeepers Network of Bala’an K’aax, a meeting took place in Ejido Sabana San Francisco, Quintana Roo, Mexico, from April 18 to 21, 2018.
As part of the cross-border activities among countries that share the Selva Maya, staff and brigade members of the Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative (CSFI) in Belize and the Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna de Bala’an K’aax (APFFBK) in Mexico, exchanged strategies for monitoring, surveillance and sustainable use of natural resources, within protected areas between March 13 to 16, 2018.
From December 11 to 15, 2017, eight members of the Muuch Kanan K’aax Community Surveillance Network of the Bala’an K’aax Flora and Fauna Protection Area (APFFBK) participated in an exchange visit to the Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative (CSFI), in Corozal, Belize. The objective of the exchange was to get to know the CSFI governance system and exchange experiences on the management of protected areas.
In September 2017 staff from the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve and the Selva Maya Programme were invited to the Yaxha-Nakum-Naranjo National Park (PNYNN), in Peten Guatemala, to meet with members of the Association for the Sustainable Development of the Yaxha Territory (ASODESTY). The objective was to present the certification initiatives that are carried out in both regions, as well as to share information, tools, results, good practices and learned lessons.
