In order to coordinate joint actions for the prevention and control of forest fires in the border area between Guatemala and Belize, a meeting was held on May 3, 2018 at the offices of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Cooperation between Germany and Guatemala began in 1978. Since then, the bilateral cooperation has been focused on citizen security and strengthening of democratic structures.
Territorial management involves actions promoting a sustainable use of the territory and the more rational use of the systems that compose it, to obtain certain goods and services. In this context, protected areas play a key role in conserving the productive base of natural resources and biological diversity. Territorial management must take into account the development of strategic plans that also include, in a transversal way, risk management and human rights.
From October 26 to 28th 2016, the SMI 100-200 course was held in the Shipstern Conservation & Managment Areas Reserve, Corozal District, Belize; with the objective of strengthening the Program of Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Selva Maya, specifically the Cooperation Strategy between the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
From August 23 to 26th of 2016, the experiences exchange was carried out in Guatemala between social actors from Mexico, Belize and Guatemala developing tourism projects and managing protected areas at the community or government level, in a sustainable way. The objective was to promote a better use of land planning instruments in their respective countries, taking into account the experiences of others.
On Friday 29th of July 2016, it was held in Flores, Petén, Guatemala; The XX Ordinary Meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the Maya Biosphere Reserve.
