Living in the Selva Maya usually means cutting down the trees to make way for farming. At least it did — until now. A voluntary conservation project shows that you can live off the rainforest without destroying it.

In this regard, Alexa Meyer, a reporter for the Deutsche Welle (international radio and television service sponsored by the German government), shares a report made in the surroundings of the municipality of Calakmul, Mexico, where different economic alternatives illustrate how communities conserve the habitat while they earn income to support their families.
