The Association of Forest Communities of Petén (ACOFOP) and the Selva Maya Program of the German Cooperation (GIZ); supported an exchange of experiences between expert chicleros, young chicleros and newcomer chicleros from December 17-19.

The Inter-institutional Platform for Sustainable Cattle Ranching promotes capacity building for livestock committees in the communities of El Caoba and El Remate in Petén, Guatemala.
At the end of 2019, the Protection and Sustainable Use of the Selva Maya Project will complete its activities.
The Selva Maya can be positioned and empowered through the creation of regional communication channels that denote the relevance of the Mesoamerican Lung and provide acurate information to improve decision making and sensitize the population about the urgency of political influence to promote the conservation of the environment.

Living in the Selva Maya usually means cutting down the trees to make way for farming. At least it did — until now. A voluntary conservation project shows that you can live off the rainforest without destroying it.
